Ohio Cannabis Laws Change October 5: What Adult-Use Consumers Need to Know

Beginning October 5, 2026, new regulations take effect in Ohio that will change dosing and purchase limits for adult-use cannabis edibles and beverages, and will prohibit certain additive-containing cannabis products.

We know changes like these can raise many questions around your cannabis routine, but at Trulieve, we’re committed to helping you stay informed every step of the way. That’s why we’ve created this guide to walk through the upcoming changes, what they mean, and what to expect. We’ll share what you need to know about Ohio’s new cannabis laws, so you can continue shopping with confidence for cannabis products that fit your needs and lifestyle.

New Adult-Use Edible and Beverage Limits

For many customers, the biggest impact will be changes to the strength and package sizes available for certain products. Ohio is lowering THC limits for adult-use edibles and beverages while maintaining separate, higher allowances for qualified medical patients. As a result, adult-use consumers may notice fewer high-potency options on dispensary shelves.

Starting October 5, 2026:

  • Adult-use edibles will be limited to 10mg THC per serving and 100mg THC per package. These limits apply to products such as gummies, chocolates, and honey-based products.
  • Adult-use beverages, powders, and drops will be limited to 10mg THC per unit and 120mg THC per package.

How Will Dosage Updates Impact Medical Patients?

If you’re registered as a medical patient, it’s important to know that the dosing and purchase limit changes will not affect the higher-potency products already available to you through Ohio’s medical cannabis program.

As a medical patient, you will continue to have access to:

  • Edibles with up to 55mg THC per serving and 550mg THC per package. This includes products such as gummies, chocolates, honey products, and other infused edibles.
  • Beverages, powders, and drops with up to 110mg THC per unit, 55mg THC per dose, and 220mg THC per package.

Cannabis Products Containing Certain Additives Will No Longer Be Available

Alongside the dosing and purchase limit changes, Ohio will no longer permit the sale of cannabis products containing caffeine, melatonin, nicotine, or similar additive ingredients after October 5. According to state regulators, these ingredients can introduce additional effects that fall outside the scope of cannabis regulation. It does not, however, necessarily prohibit all ingredients that may naturally contain caffeine or vitamins, like coffee
or chocolate, for example.

As a result, products that combine cannabis with ingredients commonly associated with energy, sleep, or nicotine use will no longer be available for sale in Ohio.

While this may mean saying goodbye to some familiar picks, thankfully, you can continue to shop for products within this category through October 4 before the new requirements take effect.
